My comeback to this website project

It's been a while and this blog could definatley use some T.L.C because I was doing a lot of reading and working on a niche website and also learning some new techniques.

I would like to write a series of what I am learning in an organized fashion so anyone can learn along with me. There are so many platforms out there to build a website from weebly to wordpress and of course blogger, I will need to brainstorm a good solid series that would be helpful to you while following this blog.

So here are some ways for going about doing this:

Wordpress- I currently operate a niche site on wordpress and learned quite a bit through that process.

Good ole html - building pages and templates that can be easily restructured for wordpress and blogger.

What I am currently studying- building sites via Photoshop ( I use GIMP a free open source software )

Div positioning- this can easily take up so many time with trial and error. Maybe exploring this concept could be a series all on its own.

How to start a web page

My first web page tutorials came from days of experimentation. I used two text books from a required CIS class that I took as part of my marketing major. I also went to my local public library and read many books. With the help of each book and several online tutorials I was able to create a template and the beginning of my first web page.

Grid layout design helps to manage the visual desired outcome of a web site. As you can see in the second image,the content area on the right is outside of the grid layout specified in the header section. The grid system does not set a standard on layout, web pages that are not proportional is acceptable as well. However in this case, my goal was to set each element in proportion with each other.

I will attempt to use the grid system again soon.

What happened to my business plan?

So as I mentioned in my profile, I wrote a business plan(organic bath and body line)complete with a banging cover page, table of contents,financials,USP and branding message PLUS,to satisfy the occasional perfectionist in me, an appendix page which was to include a snapshot of my website! The challenge of this mundane task was awesome. I had a blast with CSS and HTML and now I crave to learn more. Oh yeah. So my business plan awaits funding and I need to make my samples.I also have a business idea to make tasty cupcakes.
